Every Docking Drawer Blade Series project starts by identifying your drawer box type. There are four basic drawer types to choose from - Shallow, Tall, Narrow, and Vertical. After identifying your drawer box type, measure the drawer box width (OD) to confirm the drawer is wide enough to accept a Docking Drawer Blade Series outlet.
Shallow
Tall
Narrow
Vertical
We often get asked this when it comes to choosing the right outlet for your drawer, especially when it comes to bathroom vanity projects where the outlet is used to power hair dryers and curling irons. See the answer here.
Docking Drawer outlets are ETL Listed for use in Canada. To plan your project, follow the planning details above and consider the following to comply with the CEC*:
Specify Docking Drawer Blade Duo or Blade outlets with only USB ports. The ports remain energized and will charge devices when the drawer is closed.
To add AC outlets inside of a cabinet, such as a bathroom vanity or a kitchen appliance garage, specify a 15 amp Docking Drawer Blade Duo or Blade outlet & the Safety Interlock Outlet with Blade Limit Switch (6015-1000W). The Safety Interlock Outlet with Blade Limit Switch de-energizes a Docking Drawer Blade Series outlets when the drawer begins to close.
*The Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) has the final say on whether an installation meets the requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code.
Installed in the drawer of my master bathroom sink.
Super convenient for hair care tools.
I purchased these drawer plugs to keep top area clean without anything extra. These plugs went in great. Installing before stone tops go in make it much easier. Work smooth as expected, drawer slides perfectly.
I understand the purpose of sideways prongs, but to NOT make that a bolded note in the item description made for a disappointing surprise. Everything is installed, electrician put an outlet in the back of my cabinet, I go to plug it in and it doesn’t fit. I now need to swap the outlet type to t-shaped, spend more money to have my electrician do it, and not have a powered drawer for when we move into our newly remodeled house. It should be an option to order a unit with this type of plug, OR make it a BOLD note prior to purchasing so the buyer knows to install the correct outlet in the cabinet the first time.
Exactly what I was looking for
We had the docking drawer unit installed in our master bathroom when we had our bathrooms remodeled. It was installed in a drawer of the base cabinet for the linen storage and keeps all of our charging needs contained in that drawer and off of the counter.
