Docking Drawer outlets are famous for their installation ease, fitting seamlessly into drawers with 2” of space or more behind the drawer box. When working with less space behind the drawer box –most commonly seen in closet and inset cabinets– there are 3 common techniques that can be applied, which we’re sharing with you in this blog.

1. Create a Spacer

A spacer is a simple workaround for installing Docking Drawer outlets into drawers with a minimum of 1.25” behind the drawer box, without requiring any modifications to the drawer itself. This is the most commonly used technique, and is most often seen when dealing with inset cabinets where drawers typically extend ¼ inch further into the cabinet by design.

By creating a simple spacer, you can extend your Docking Drawer outlet further into the drawer box, bridging that space gap between 1.25”+ to 2”. Spacers can range in length and depth, creating a wide range of installation options, which we’ve expanded on in our Digital Spec Book.

2. Reposition the Back of the Drawer Box

Repositioning the back of the drawer further into the drawer is another technique that can be applied when dealing with anywhere from 0-2” of space behind the drawer box.

3. Utilize Space Behind the Cabinet

Removing the back panel of the cabinet is another technique that can be applied on drawers with 0-2” behind the drawer box, when there is a gap between the cabinet and drywall. The cutout will allow you to utilize the filler gap space, and a drywall anchor mount can be used to mount the Docking Drawer outlet directly to the drywall.
