Most Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

Do Docking Drawer Blade outlets comply with building codes?

Are Docking Drawer products ETL or UL Listed?

As far as regulatory approval goes, there is no difference between an ETL listing and UL listings (more on that, here). Inspectors treat them equally as they're both approved by the US Government as NRTLs. Here are Docking Drawer certifications, by product line:

  • Blade Series & Safety Interlock Outlets are ETL Listed to UL 962A (US) and Certified to CSA C22.2 No. 21 (Canada)
  • Flush Pop-Up & Point Pod are Certified to UL 962A and CSA C22.2 No. 308
  • Hubbell Countertop Pop-Up outlets are Certified to UL 223A and UL 498
  • Prado Unifit outlets are ETL Listed (US + Canada), tested by Intertek (Control #5029983)
Can a Docking Drawer Blade outlet be hardwired?

While hardwiring is technically possible, we strongly advise against it. Doing so alters the device, invalidating its ETL Listing and transferring all liability from Docking Drawer to whoever performed the modification.

Why not make your own Blade in-drawer outlet?

We proudly own the fact that safety and quality come at a financial cost. No available or handcrafted solution matches the safety and quality engineering of our purpose-built in-drawer outlets. Docking Drawer Blade outlets are ETL Listed with built-in features you simply can't replicate: an integrated safety thermostat to prevent overheating, cable management arms that protect cords from fraying, and all-metal construction built to last a lifetime. Compact, fully corded, and easy to install in new or existing drawers — plus fully repairable as technology evolves and backed by a 5-year warranty. When customers say our solutions are "expensive, but safe," or “worth the investment,” they're recognizing the unparalleled engineering and safety standards that set Docking Drawer apart. We don't just meet industry standards—we exceed them in every way.
